Pets
Pets are a major gameplay feature in Grow a Garden, first introduced in Update 1.04.0 (May 3, 2025). They act as powerful companions that provide helpful boosts and abilities to make gardening faster and more rewarding.
Pet Abilities
Each pet in Grow a Garden has its own unique ability, which can affect crop growth, resource gain, or even special events. Having more than one of the same pet will stack their abilities, increasing their overall impact.
Players begin with three pet equip slots, but can unlock five additional slots through gamepasses or by trading aged pets in the Limited Time Shop, allowing up to eight pets equipped at once.
Pet Inventory
By default, players can hold up to 60 pets in their inventory. However, there are several ways to expand this limit:
Gamepasses & Trading
Purchasing gamepasses or trading pets (adds +25 slots).
Pet Pouches
Crafting Pet Pouches, each providing +1 inventory slot (up to 50 total).
Ascension Shop Upgrades
Each +10 slots, purchasable 5 times for 40 Garden Coins each.
Combining all upgrades, the total possible capacity reaches 185 pets (60 base + 25 from passes + 50 pouches + 50 Ascension slots).
While you can exceed this limit by receiving pets from chests or event rewards, eggs can only be hatched if placed in the garden.
Pet Stats and Growth
A pet’s strength is tied to its weight. As pets age, their weight increases, which makes their passive and active abilities stronger — for example, faster cooldowns or higher multipliers.
Mega Pets start with higher base stats, even at level 1.
Some pets, like the Triceratops, maintain fixed stats regardless of growth.
The Brontosaurus
Boosts pet weight during hatching.
The Ostrich
Increases pet age at hatch.
The Barn Owl
Improves shop-bought pet weight.
There’s also a rare 1 in 1,000 chance for a pet to hatch as Titanic, which requires at least 3 kg weight (without Brontosaurus boosts).
Pet Mutations
Pets can gain mutations, granting them new looks and extra powers. Mutations are applied using one of the following:
- The Mutation Machine near the Egg Shop
- A Golden Acorn
- Pet Mutation Shards
Each mutation gives a permanent upgrade to the pet’s performance and appearance, making them even more valuable to collectors and competitive gardeners.
Obtainable Pets
Obtainable Pets are the companions that players can earn through normal gameplay in Grow a Garden. They don’t require trading, testing permissions, or admin access — making them accessible to all players who explore, hatch eggs, and complete in-game tasks.
Each pet is classified by its rarity tier, which affects its hatch chance, stats, and overall value in the garden. Below are the current obtainable rarity levels:
- Common
- Uncommon
- Rare
- Legendary
- Mythical
- Divine
- Prismatic
- Unknown
Pet Age in Grow a Garden
Pet Age Overview:
In Grow a Garden, Pet Age is an important mechanic that determines how strong and efficient your pets become over time.
Earning XP:
Pets gain XP (experience points) as they assist in your garden. They must stay well-fed to continue aging.
Hunger Mechanic:
If a pet’s Hunger bar drops to zero, it stops gaining XP until fed again — except for special pets like the Starfish, which passively earns XP regardless of hunger.
Benefits of Aging:
As pets level up and age, they grow more powerful. Older pets gain faster cooldowns, stronger ability effects, and increased bonuses that make gardening and farming more rewarding.
XP Progression:
Each new age level requires more XP than the last, so keeping pets active and well-fed helps them grow faster.
Hunger & Feeding in Grow a Garden
Core Mechanic:
In Grow a Garden, pet hunger is a vital mechanic that keeps your pets active and growing. Pets must stay fed to continue earning XP and increasing their Pet Age.
Hunger Bar:
When a pet’s Hunger Bar reaches 0, it stops aging and gaining experience until it’s fed again.
Feeding Your Pets:
- Equip any crop from your inventory and walk up to your pet.
- Click the pet and select “Feed”, or hold the interact button when nearby.
- Alternatively, open the Pet Menu, choose the crop you want to feed, and press Feed.
Feeding Feedback:
Once fed, a message appears showing the percentage of hunger restored. The type of crop and mutation used can affect how much hunger is recovered.
Hunger Capacity Differences:
Each pet species and rarity tier has a different hunger capacity.
Rarer pets often have larger hunger bars, requiring more frequent feeding but growing much stronger over time.
Pet Weights in Grow a Garden
Core Mechanic
Pet Weight is one of the core systems in Grow a Garden, directly tied to a pet’s age and overall power level. As pets age, their weight increases — enhancing abilities such as:
- Shorter cooldowns
- Higher success rates
- Stronger passive bonuses
Fixed-Weight Pets:
Some pets, like the Triceratops, maintain fixed stats regardless of growth. Others, such as the Ostrich, eventually hit a weight cap, where abilities no longer improve despite continued weight gain.
Hatch Weight & Growth
When hatching a pet egg, its starting weight is randomized, determining how strong it begins at Age 1 and how much it grows per level.
- Weight Growth Formula: Each time a pet’s age increases, it gains 1⁄11 of its starting weight, so a Level 100 pet weighs roughly 10× more than it did at Level 1.
- Typical Hatch Weight Ranges: Eggs (0.88 – 2.20 kg), Shop/Chest Pets (0.88 – 1.32 kg).
- Huge Pet Chance: There’s a 0.1% chance to hatch a Huge Pet, applying a 4× weight multiplier (3.52 – 8.80 kg at hatch).
- Brontosaurus Boost: Using a Brontosaurus increases hatch weight by up to 30%, raising potential limits to Normal Pets (1.14 – 2.86 kg) and Huge Pets (4.56 – 11.44 kg).
- Maximum Weight Cap: The maximum possible pet weight at Age 100 is 114.40 kg, achievable by combining the highest base stats, Huge modifier, and Brontosaurus bonus. Pets cannot exceed this cap.
Why Pet Weight Matters
- Performance Boosts: Heavier pets perform better in farming, mutation success, and cooldown efficiency.
- Growth Strategy: Managing pet weight through hatching, feeding, and aging is essential to building the strongest possible companions in Grow a Garden.
