Overview

The Prehistoric Event came out in Update 1.13.0, bringing a dinosaur theme to Grow a Garden. Players could use a special machine to turn their pets into dino eggs or even full dinosaurs. It also introduced a few upgrades and crafting features tied to collecting prehistoric plants.

Event Mechanics

DNA Machine

At the back of the event island, there’s a big machine called the DNA Machine. It lets players turn their regular pets into dinosaur eggs. When a pet is placed inside, it takes some time to process (about an hour). Once it’s done, the pet turns into 1–6 dinosaur eggs. There’s also a rare chance for it to become a dinosaur pet right away instead of an egg.

The rarer the dinosaur, the smaller the chance you’ll get it — so it’s mostly about luck and patience.

Upgrades

Players can talk to Barry, the event NPC, to make the DNA Machine work faster and unlock new features. Each upgrade needs a certain total weight of prehistoric plants.

DNA Machine Upgrades

RequirementUpgrade
40kgUnlocks the Primal Egg option
60kgReduces mutation time to 48 minutes
80kgGives 2 eggs per use
100kgUnlocks craftable eggs

Dino Quests

During the Prehistoric Event, players could take on Dino Quests from Blaire, found at the “Pre-Historic Quest” area. Every 12 hours, Blaire gives out three random quests from a pool of fifteen, each focused on planting, harvesting, growing, or crafting items related to the event. Completing these quests rewarded event progress and resources that helped with the DNA Machine and dinosaur collection.

Trivia

  • The event was developed following strong player requests on social media.
  • During an admin livestream, Jandel hinted that a plant would surpass the Candy Blossom a tease that later became the Bone Blossom.
  • The update’s release closely aligned with Jurassic World Rebirth, likely as a thematic nod.
  • This update introduced the first ever aging mutation, Amber, which gradually evolves into Old Amber and Ancient Amber over time, raising crop value with each stage.
  • The event’s NPCs may reference Jurassic World characters “Blaire” resembling Claire and “Graham” echoing Alan Grant.
  • Dino Quests are designed similarly to Eloise’s Daily Quests, though they award Normal Seed Packs rather than Bone Blossom Seeds.
  • The first two DNA Machine upgrades together shorten the total mutation time by 36 minutes, leaving only 24 minutes for a full cycle.
  • When Bonus Quests were added in the event’s second phase, players gained the ability to complete the full questline using only those since they lack the 12-hour cooldown, it became possible to earn extra Bone Blossoms efficiently.
  • Among the prehistoric pets, T-Rex and Spinosaurus share the rarest hatch rate, each with roughly a 0.5% chance.
